Movies With Good, Bad And Absent Endings

My wife and I see a lot of movies. If we're not seeing them in theatres, we're renting them from the video store. We usually go to the matinee before 6 in the evening. That's the cheap way of doing it, plus it makes you feel that much better if you wind up spending less on something that turns out to be crap.

I'm going to share some lists of movies that we have seen the last six months. No detailed descriptions will be given in case you want to see them for yourself. The opinions given are my own. Feel free to disagree. Let me know what ya think.

The following movies are good but have bad and/or sad endings:

I Am Legend
Death Sentence
The Mist
30 Days of Night
3:10 To Yuma

These movies are decent but neither one has an ending:

The Golden Compass
No Country For Old Men

Movies that are total crap and should stay away from like the f**king plague:

Sweeney Todd (annoying musical that had me screaming)
2112: Doomsday (annoying and boring)
Eastern Promises (so boring we both were snoring)

Great movies with real endings that are satisfactory:

No Reservations, Rambo, Stardust, The Bourne Ultimatum, AVP: Requiem, The Invasion, Live Free Or Die Hard, Ironman, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull, The Brave One, Spiderman 3, The Simpsons Movie and Resident Evil: Extinction

Here's a list of movies that are coming soon and that I look forward to seeing. The dates beside them are for the U.S. only.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (in theatres now), The Dark Knight (July 18th, 2008), The Mummy 3 (August 1st, 2008), Quantum of Solace (new James Bond film that comes out November 7, 2008), The Strangers (May 30th, 2008), Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (July 11, 2008), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (?????)

Ah interesting!! You know what? You need to wander over to www.themoviewhore.com and have a chat with my good online pal Jim. You two could spend ages talking film as a lot of his posts are just like this!

Hmmmm. I'll give that a try.

Thank you Sy. This is The Movie Whore's blogspot id.

I like the idea on the list but I disagree with with a couple of these. The Mist had a perfect ending. It was the only to end the movie and do it right. The happy ending is overdone and expected.

Sweeney Todd was good. It stayed honest to the play. I loved it.

The AVP ending is the part of the movie that pissed me off. They had a chance at the perfect ending and screwed it up.

Don't get me started on Spidermen3. I am still angry about that movie.

Then again I am The Movie Whore so I have a slightly different view of movies.

I disagree about "The Mist". It was good until the point where he kills everyone in the car, even his own child. Most people like me go to see movies for the escapism factor. Life is often stressful and not-that-cheery enough without seeing a movie offering a tragic ending like that. Anymore, it seems moviemakers are making movies with unhappy endings just so they can be thought of as avant-garde. I don't buy into it.

"Sweeney Blah" was horrendous because of the loud, wailing, warbled singing throughout.

"Spiderman 3" was great because of the plot, action and acting. I loved it so much, I bought it.

Were there any movies that you liked that I enjoyed? I thought it was kinda odd that you mentioned only the ones you disagreed with me on.

I am Legen was ruined long before the ending. The bad CGI just killed it.

I did dig the ending of RE:Extinction.

I totally dug Iron Man.

I loved 3:10 to Yuma. No problem with the ending.

Life is pain and as much as I love to escape the pain of my life I do not suspend my disbelief for entertainments sake. I have found that the pain you get from a movie like the Mist is really what needed to be shown to accurately portray the all out hopelessness of defeat and that some times no matter what you do you are screwed.

We need a healthy reminder from time to time that our escapes are just that an escape not they way things can be. It is the attack on the senses of the nothing but happy endings that distorts the way we see things.

You are some one that I would say likes movies. Let me explain. If you merely just watch movies then you like a lot of Hollywood fluff. Nothing of substance and not really that entertaining.

You like movies when you can wade through the shit and know some of the standard gems but you don't wander too far outside that. You still like your formula flicks but from time to time you like some good.

You love movies when will subject yourself to countless hours of pain and suffering in order to find those rare gems that are the greatest films you have never heard of.

For the record you are questioning a musical for singing but you had no problem with the musical numbers in Spiderman 3?

Yes, the singing and music was much better in Spiderman 3. The warbled "singing" in Sweeney gave me a headache. I kept thinking that maybe the movie would get better. Feeling I've already made my point on the rest of it, I shall simply say.... I disagree.

Later.
